
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Florida — If you think you’ve seen Panama City Beach from every angle, the folks at Panhandle Helicopter think you should adjust your elevation by a couple hundred feet.
The Hott family, led by brothers Ron and JR, purchased Panhandle Helicopter in 2008 and this summer unveiled a new building and operations center in Panama City Beach.
Panhandle Helicopter offers six different tours from the Panama City Beach location, ranging in price from $40 to $150 per person.
I took the $40 introductory tour with a co-worker who was a little nervous about flying. By the time we reached our cruising altitude, her skepticism had completely melted away. When we landed, she was promising to sign up for one of the longer excursions next time around.
We flew over Pier Park and up along the beach to the County pier, where our pilot, Becky Blankenship, pointed out a few tarpon swimming around the pier. I was amazed how clearly we could see them from the air.
Wildlife sightings are a common occurrence on several of the tours, especially the Shark Run and Shell
